Lauren Steinbaum joins lab

Lauren Steinbaum has joined our lab as a postdoctoral researcher. Learn more about her experience and current research on our People page.

By Lauren Steinbaum

Lauren Steinbaum comes to us from Stanford University, where she recently completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering. She earned a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley. Her past experience includes overseeing wastewater discharges to the SF Bay at the California Water Quality Control Board, building a rainwater harvesting tank and latrines in rural Tanzania, and researching the conversion of fecal sludge into biodiesel in Ghana. For her PhD, she investigated environmental transmission of soil-transmitted helminths, a type of intestinal worms that infect humans, in rural homes in western Kenya. She is passionate about disease transmission. Her PhD focused on disease transmission on at the micro level (she actually used a microscope!), and she is excited to learn more about macro-level (i.e. population-level) disease transmission as a postdoctoral researcher.
